SWEET SPOT

"And still we speak of journeying and home; remembering spots where the passing of time was sweet."

SWEET SPOT was a photography project that took place across Arbroath during July through to end of October 2023.  The Brothock Gallery @ Arbroath Library hosted the complete project in a specially designed exhibition which also featured work produced during workshops with schools and community groups. A  free Sweet Spot Arbroath mini-tabloid magazine was produced and distributed to houses across Arbroath. The Sweet Spot book is  available to buy from this site.

Sweet Spot was created from the building blocks that link ideas/place/people and makes connections between objects/images and histories/positions that they occupy in the places we live and/or remember.

Sweet Spot was supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland and also by Angus Alive and produced by Adam Geary, a photographer and publisher based in Angus.

SWEET SPOT is based on fictional places of our imagination. A universal town perhaps, with a past, present and future. At the centre of Sweet Spot is the central paradox of when 'Nowhere' becomes 'Everywhere' and how ultimately our sense of place and wellbeing is affected. Living in a digital era, where every thing and every place collide into a seeming oneness; time seems to shorten.

During May 2023 Adam worked with P7 pupils in Hayshead and Warddykes Primary Schools and also with Reach-Across and The Learning Tree Partnership to explore the ideas behind Sweet Spot and to encourage workshop participants  to make images that define in some way their own 'special' places. One image from each participant was printed and displayed at the Brothock Gallery @ Arbroath Library alongside Sweet Spot. A selection of images appeared in the free mini-tabloid magazine.

ABOUT

Arrow

Hello!

Thanks for checking out my website.

I’m a photographer living in Angus, on the North East Coast of Scotland, UK. My primary creative focus is publishing books and have done this for many years. Publishing allows me to reach a diverse, international audience with high quality, accessible and affordable books /prints that are easy to buy and collect. My books and photographs are exhibited widely and appear in many collections worldwide.

I studied photography at Derby, UK in the late 80’s and since then have continued to work as a photographer alongside a career in the arts and cultural sector. I set up the AGLU publishing imprint in 2012 and have published over 35 books, featuring both my own work and that of other photographers.

My photography work can’t easily be pigeon-holed but I certainly like being outside, searching for images and exploring new places; looking for poetry in the everyday and being excited by the visual world. I take inspiration and influence from many places across the arts and my work is a reflection of this. It really is all about the photographs and the books, however!

If you require further details on any aspect of my work, just scroll down and get in touch through the contact page.
